Ingredients
1 cup white sugar
1/2 cup unsalted butter
2 large eggs
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
1 1/2 cups flour
13/4 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 cup milk
Preparation
Step 1
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
Step 2
Grease and flour a cake pan. (Recommended: 9-inch square pan or 10-inch round pan. For making muffins, follow the same procedure, but bake for 20 to 25 minutes.)
Step 3
Place the sugar and butter together in a mixing bowl. Using a whisk, cream the sugar and butter.
Step 4
Add eggs, one at a time, lightly beating after each addition. Stir in the vanilla.
Step 5
In a separate bowl, combine the flour and baking powder. Add these dry ingredients to the wet ingredient mixture. Mix well.
Step 6
Add milk to the mixture and stir until smooth. Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan.
Step 7
In the preheated oven, bake the cake until the top springs back when lightly touched -- about 30 to 40 minutes.
Step 8
Take the cake out of the oven. Enjoy!
